Fiery politician Miguna Miguna has been charged at a Kajiado Court days after police kept his whereabouts a secret.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Nicholas Mutuku made the revelation at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on Tuesday.

He said Miguna has been charged with being and consenting to an unofficial oath for NASA leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday last week at Uhuru Park.

Miguna’s charge sheet according to the Star reads in part, “[Miguna has been] charged with administration binding Raila Odinga to commit a capital offence namely treason contrary to Section 59 of the Penal Code.”

However, his lawyers Nelson Havi and Edwin Sifuna questioned why the charge sheet was signed by the police instead of the DPP.

On Monday, High Court Judge Luka Kimaru had directed the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and the DCU Boss George Kinoti to produce Miguna in court by 2pm.

However, this did not happen. Opposition supporters hit out at the police for holding Miguna longer than required despite being released on Friday on Sh50, 000 bond.

Miguna was dramatically arrested on Friday at his Runda home and taken to police custody.

He is the third NASA politician to be arrested in connection with Raila’s swearing-in last week.

Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang was also arrested on Wednesday last week before he was arraigned before Ngng Resident Magistrate’s Court in Thursday.

He was freed on Sh50, 000 bond.

On Saturday, Makadara MP George Aladwa was briefly held by police in connection with the unofficial oath but was later released on free bond.
